Trident Ultraviolet Corporation through UVrecall.org, is voluntarily recalling Trident Series 2 UV Sanitation Systems sold between February 16, 2009 through September 5, 2013,  An issue with the units can cause electrical arcing, which can pose a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
                                   
                                            
The model numbers affected by this recall are Trident Series 2 models S2-11, S2-12, S2-13, S2-14, S2-21, S2-22, S2-23, and S2-24, the model number may or may not be followed by the letter “S”. Model numbers can be found on a 2 inch x 3 inch silver mylar product label attached to the UV unit’s body. You should record the model number and six character date code on the label for future reference.  They are marked as “Model Number” and “Date Code” on the label as is shown below.

The only units subject to this recall are those with manufacture dates between February 16, 2009 and September 5, 2013. To determine the date of manufacture, and thereby confirm if your unit is within the recall population, refer to the date code on the label.

The date code is comprised of 6 alpha characters.  Each character represents a number between 1 & 0.  The code key is the word CHARLESTON, where C=1, H=2, A=3….etc, up to N=0

Using this key, once you have converted the letters to numerals, you have determined the date of manufacture.  The first two digits are the month, the next two digits are the day, and the last two digits are the year.  Thus, for example, a date code of NLCHCC = 05/12/11.  Only Series 2 units which have date codes showing the date of manufacture before 9-8-13 are Trident UV units made by Trident UV and subject to this recall. 

Note:  Units with manufacturing date codes after 9-8-13 are Trident labeled units made by Paramount Leisure Industries (Toll-Free 800-621-5886).  Should your unit reflect a manufacture date after 9-8-13,  you should contact Paramount Leisure Industries directly.

PLEASE DISCONNECT THE UV UNIT FROM ITS POWER SOURCE IMMEDIATELY.

Is this a recall?
Yes, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, UVrecall.org is announcing a voluntary recall and field remediation program for all Trident Ultraviolet Series 2 UV units manufactured and sold between February 16, 2009 through September 5, 2013.   This is a voluntary recall.

What is the reason for the recall?
Due to a combination of issues, including the placement of internal components and external environmental factors, some Trident Ultraviolet Corporation Series 2 Ultraviolet  Sanitation systems are subject to an electrical arc, which can cause the units to overheat, melt or burn surrounding plastic components or contiguous property.

Is there any danger?
As with any electrical component issue, the potential for fire and possible injury exists.  Therefore, you must disconnect the UV unit from its power source IMMEDIATELY and only place it back into service when the field remediation is completed.

How is this potential unsafe condition going to be remedied?
A field remediation kit will be supplied at no charge to the UV unit owner for field installation by a pool technician.  To obtain the field remediation kit and arrange for a pool technician, if one is not available to you, please call toll-free 855-522-8200 or email to info@uvrecall.org. The simple field remediation takes five minutes or less to complete and once the field remediation kit is installed pursuant to the instructions provided with the kit, the UV unit can be returned to normal operation. 

How do I ensure that I will receive the field remediation kit?
To obtain the field remediation kit and arrange for a pool technician, if one is not available to you, please call toll-free 855-522-8200 or email to info@uvrecall.org.  A UV recall specialist will take your information and ensure that you receive the field remediation kit and instructions and will arrange for a pool technician, if one is not already available to you. You can also review the instructions and illustrated parts diagram for installing the field remediation kit by clicking (here).

How long before I receive the field remediation kit?
Uvrecall.org is working diligently to expedite providing field remediation kits as quickly as possible. It is estimated that after the consumer contacts Uvrecall.org, field remediation kits will ship in approximately 5-7 business days. If your own pool technician is not available, a pool technician will be arranged for as quickly as possible to conduct the field remediation kit installation. When will the recall and upgrade kit program end?
The recall and field remediation kit offer does not expire.  Notices will appear in retailers’ stores, but the recall will not expire even when the notices no longer appear.
